What is Prospan cough syrup and when is it used?
Prospan cough syrup is a plant-based preparation and contains a standardized (i.e. consistent in quality) extract of ivy leaves. Ivy has expectorant and antispasmodic properties. Prospan cough syrup is used when there is excessive build-up of thick phlegm, for coughing up a cold.
Prospan cough syrup is alcohol-free, sugar-free (with sorbitol) and without coloring agents.
What should you bear in mind?
If the cough lasts longer than seven days, you should consult a doctor.
This medicine contains approx. 1.9 g of usable carbohydrates per single dose (5 ml).
When should Prospan cough syrup not be taken or should it be taken with caution?
Prospan cough syrup should not be taken if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients (see «What does Prospan cough syrup contain?»). Use on children under 2 years of age only as prescribed by a doctor!
Please only take Prospan cough syrup after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

- take other medicines (including those you bought yourself)!
Can Prospan cough syrup be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child when used as intended. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.
How do you use Prospan cough syrup?
Unless otherwise prescribed, small children from the age of 2 years take 2.5 ml of juice 3 times a day, school children from the age of 6 and adolescents 5 ml 3 times a day and adults 7.5 ml of juice 3 times a day using the measuring cup included.
Observe the dosage specified in the package leaflet or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Prospan cough syrup have?
The following side effects can occur when using Prospan cough syrup:
Due to the sorbitol content, a laxative effect can occur.
It is very rare that after taking medicines containing ivy n allergic reactions (shortness of breath, swelling, redness of the skin, itching).
Sensitive people may very rarely experience gastrointestinal problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
If allergic reactions occur, do not use the product and, if necessary, consult a doctor.
No interactions have been reported when Prospan Hustensaft and other medicines are taken at the same time. The preparation can therefore also be combined with other medicines.
If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What else needs to be considered?
The medicine may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.
Store at room temperature (15-25 °C) in the original packaging.
< p>The medicine is out of the reach of the childOnce the bottle has been opened, the juice can be kept for 6 months.
Shake the bottle well before each use!
Due to the plant extract content, Prospan cough syrup may occasionally be slightly cloudy and slight changes in taste, but this has no effect on the quality of the preparation.

What does Prospan cough syrup contain?
5 ml contain 35 mg ivy leaf dry extract (DEV 5-7.5:1). Extraction agent: ethanol 36.3% (V/V).
This preparation also contains aromatics, preservatives: potassium sorbate (E 202) and sorbitol as well as other auxiliary substances.
