Description

What is Unguentolan and when is it used?

Unguentolan promotes wound healing and regeneration of injured tissue.

Unguentolan can be used for small superficial injuries, skin damage and minor burns (1st degree) (also for sunburn and cold injuries).

Unguentolan may only be used on children under 2 years of age if prescribed by a doctor.

What should be considered?

Large, heavily soiled and deep wounds, as well as bite and puncture wounds require medical treatment (danger of tetanus). If the size of a wound remains unchanged for some time or if the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, a doctor's visit is also necessary. The same applies if the edges of the wound are very red, the wound suddenly swells, is very painful or the injury is accompanied by fever (danger of blood poisoning). See also «When should Unguentolan not be used?».

When should Unguentolan not be used?

Unguentolan should not be used if there is a known intolerance to the active ingredient cod liver oil or one of the excipients according to the composition (e.g. the preservative).

If there is a risk of infection (e.g. extensive burns, inflamed wounds, heavily soiled wounds, deep wounds, bite wounds, Puncture wounds) Unguentolan must not be used. There is a risk of blood poisoning or a possible complication of tetanus.

When should you be careful when using Unguentolan?

See a doctor if you have suffered an injury with a risk of infection, such as extensive burns, inflamed wounds, deep wounds, bite or puncture wounds or heavily soiled wounds. The doctor will decide on the necessary treatment.

If the size of a wound remains unchanged for some time or if the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, treatment with Unguentolan wound ointment should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. This also applies if there are signs of infection, e.g. the edges of the wound are very red, the wound suddenly swells, is very painful or the injury is accompanied by fever.

In the case of X-ray radiation, it should be noted that Unguentolan may increase the irritation and reddening of the skin.

Unguentolan must not come into contact with the mucous membranes and especially not with the eyes.

Be particularly careful when using Unguentolan is required if you want to expose yourself to UV light (e.g. sun, sunlamps, solariums) during use.

Butylhydroxytoluene can cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis), irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes.

Propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) can cause allergic reactions, including delayed reactions.

Unguentolan should not be used during pregnancy.

If should it be necessary to use it while breastfeeding, you must not use Unguentolan in the chest area in order to avoid direct contact between the infant and the active ingredient. See «Can Unguentolan be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?»

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you

  • suffer from other diseases,
  • have allergies or
  • take or use external medicines (including those you bought yourself!).
