What are RENNIE LOZENGES and when are they used?

The active ingredients in Rennie Peppermint and Rennie Spearmint lozenges - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate - neutralize stomach acid and alleviate the symptoms of over-acidification of the stomach, such as burning and acid reflux.

Rennie Spearmint lozenges are sugar free.

What should be considered?

If you suffer from an intolerance to fructose or household sugar (fructose intolerance, sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency) or glucose-galactose malabsorption, you should Do not take Rennie Peppermint. If you have an intolerance to sorbitol, you should not take Rennie Spearmint.

Note for diabetics: 1 lozenge of Rennie Peppermint contains 475 mg of sucrose. 1 lozenge Rennie Spearmint contains 400 mg sorbitol and saccharin.

When not to take RENNIE LOOSES?

You should not take Rennie Peppermint and Rennie Spearmint if

  • You are allergic to calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate or any of the excipients in Rennie Peppermint or Rennie Spearmint lozenges;
  • Your kidney function is severely impaired;
  • You have hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood);
  • you have been diagnosed with kidney stones (nephrolithiasis);
  • you suffer from hypophosphatemia (too little phosphate in the blood).

When is caution required when taking RENNIE LOZZTABLET?

Rennie lozenges should not be taken for longer than 2 weeks without a doctor's consultation. In the case of prolonged and/or recurring symptoms, a doctor must examine whether a serious illness could be present. Rennie lozenges should also not be taken for long periods of time without medical supervision, as long-term use can lead to changes in blood salts.

The effect of antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones), cardiac glycosides (digoxin), medicines against osteoporosis (so-called bisphosphonates), medicines against HIV infections, diuretic medicines, levothyroxine for thyroid diseases, eltrombopag for coagulation disorders and other medicines can be reduced if taken at the same time Rennie Peppermint or Rennie Spearmint. Therefore, a time interval of two hours should be observed between taking Rennie Peppermint or Rennie Spearmint and taking other medicines.

Long-term use should be avoided, particularly if you suffer from kidney dysfunction or are prone to kidney stones. Rennie lozenges should not be taken with large amounts of milk or milk products.

Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you

  • suffer from other diseases,
  • have allergies or
  • take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!)

May RENNIE lozenges be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child if used as directed. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out.

During pregnancy, Rennie lozenges may be taken for a maximum of 2 weeks.

To prevent calcium overload, pregnant women should avoid excessive consumption of milk and dairy products.

Calcium and magnesium are excreted in breast milk, but no effects on the child are expected at therapeutic doses of Rennie Lozenges.

As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use RENNIE LOZENGES?

The following applies to all possible uses (see «What are Rennie Peppermint and Rennie Spearmint and when are they used?»):

Adults and children over 12 years: Dissolve 1-2 lozenges one at a time slowly in the mouth (Rennie Peppermint and Rennie Spearmint are taken without water), preferably one hour after meals and before bedtime, but also in between if you have a heartburn. If necessary, the application can be repeated approximately every two hours.

Do not take more than 11 lozenges per day, and do not take the maximum dose for more than 2 weeks continuously.

The use and safety in children under 12 years of age has not been tested and is not recommended.

Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can RENNIE LOOSE TABLETS have?

The following side effects can occur when taking Rennie Peppermint or Rennie Spearmint: nausea, vomiting, stomach problems, constipation, diarrhea, muscle weakness.

Complications (hypermagnesemia, hypercalcaemia) can occur in patients suffering from kidney disease, which manifest themselves as nausea, vomiting, weakness and headaches. If you experience such symptoms, you should consult your doctor immediately.

On very rare occasions, hypersensitivity reactions have been reported after taking Rennie Lozenges, which may manifest as rash, hives, itching, angioedema, shortness of breath and anaphylaxis.

If you notice side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What else needs to be considered?

Rennie Peppermint and Rennie Spearmint lozenges should not be stored above 25°C and should be protected from moisture.

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.
