What is Hametum and when is it used?

Hametum contains active herbal ingredients from Hamamelis virginiana, the Virginian witch hazel.

Hametum has anti-inflammatory, astringent and local hemostatic properties. It promotes the healing of minor skin injuries, relieves itching and has a cooling and pain-relieving effect.

Hametum is used for the treatment of minor skin injuries such as abrasions and cuts, cracked, chapped skin, local irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, dry and sore nasal mucosa, < em>Hemorrhoids, against soreness in children, adolescents and adults, wolf, for burn blisters and sunburn of a lighter degree.

When should Hametum not be used or only with caution?

Use in children under the age of 2 is not recommended as there is insufficient data for this age group. If a local deterioration occurs or if healing does not occur within 2-3 weeks, a doctor, pharmacist or druggist should be consulted.

If the general condition deteriorates (e.g. fever), a doctor must be consulted immediately. If you are hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, such as wool wax or cetostearyl alcohol, the ointment must not be used. May cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).

This medicinal product contains 8.3 mg propylene glycol per 0.5 cm strand of ointment, equivalent to 50 mg/g ointment.

Can Hametum be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child when used as directed. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Hametum?

Adults, adolescents and children from 2 years of age: Unless otherwise prescribed, apply a thin layer of Hametum several times a day or massage in lightly as required. A strand of ointment 0.5 cm long corresponds to 0.17 g of ointment.

For local treatment of hemorrhoids, insert ointment twice a day using a screw-on cannula (25 g, 35 g and 50 g tubes with cannula).

Stick to the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

The use and safety of Hametum ointment in children under 2 years of age has not yet been tested.

What side effects can Hametum have?

Up to now, no side effects have been observed for Hametum when used as intended. If you nevertheless observe side effects, inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

If allergic reactions occur again (e.g. skin reddening, itching), you should refrain from further use and, if necessary, inform a doctor.

What else needs to be considered?

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.
