Description

What is Aviral Crème and when is it used?

Aviral Crème contains acyclovir as an active ingredient. Acyclovir inhibits the multiplication of the herpes viruses without affecting the normal metabolic processes. The herpes viruses cause blistering on the skin and mucous membrane.

The Aviral Crème is used externally for light, localized cold sores on the lips.

When should Aviral Crème not be used?

Aviral Crème must not be used in the case of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients acyclovir, valaciclovir, propylene glycol or any other excipient contained in the cream.

When should you be careful when using Aviral Crème?

Aviral Crème should only be used on cold sores on the lips and not on mucous membranes (e.g. mouth, eyes or genital area). Aviral cream should not come into contact with the eyes. Likewise, the indicated dosage should not be increased. If the cold sores do not heal within 10 days at the latest, or if they even get worse, you should consult your doctor. If you have particularly severe or widespread cold sores, you must see your doctor. Severely immunocompromised people should contact their doctor for any infection.

Cold sores are contagious. For this reason, hands should be washed before using the Aviral Crème and after using the Aviral Crème, care should be taken not to touch other parts of the body with the fingers before they are washed, especially not the eyes.

Aviral Crème contains cetyl alcohol. This can cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).

This medicine contains 250 mg propylene glycol per g of cream.

Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you have

  • suffer from other diseases,
  • Have allergies or
  • take other medicines (including those you have bought yourself!) or apply them externally.

Can Aviral Crème be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Aviral Crème should only be used during pregnancy after consulting a doctor.

If Aviral Crème is used while breastfeeding, there is no need to interrupt breastfeeding.

How do you use Aviral Cream?

For children under 12 years of age, the doctor must first prescribe Aviral Crème.

Adults and children over 2 years of age should apply the Aviral Crème 5 times a day at an interval of approx. 4 hours. It is recommended that the cream be applied immediately when the first symptoms such as tingling, itching or burning sensation appear. The treatment can also be started after the cold sores have already formed.

Hands should be washed before and after treatment to prevent the infection from spreading.

If you forget to apply the Aviral Crème, it should be done as soon as possible and the usual rhythm should be adhered to afterwards.

The duration of treatment is usually 4 days. If the healing is not complete after this time, the Aviral Crème can be used for up to 10 days. If the infection has not healed after this time, you must consult your doctor.

Adhere to the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by your doctor. If you think that the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can aviral cream have?

The following side effects may occur when using Aviral Crème:

The skin can often dry out slightly. Immediately after applying the cream, a slight burning sensation or a slight reddening may occur without the need to interrupt the treatment.

The cream can occasionally cause reddening, itching or flaking of the skin. However, this does not affect the effect of the cream.

A sudden allergic reaction can rarely occur, very rarely with swelling of the face, including the eyelids, tongue and larynx. In this case, the treatment should be stopped immediately and the doctor should be notified.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

What should also be noted?

The drug may only be used up to the date marked “EXP” on the container.
