What should be considered?

Fertifol contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to him/her before taking this medicine.

When should Fertifol not be used?

If you are allergic to folic acid, you must not take Fertifol.

If you suffer from pernicious anemia, the doctor will prescribe you another medicine.

When is caution required when taking Fertifol?

Alcoholic beverages impede the absorption of folic acid and can reduce the effect of Fertifol. If possible, avoid alcohol during the treatment.

Women who have already given birth to a child with an open back or similar disorders, or in whose relatives such cases have occurred, should talk to their doctor about it to be on the safe side.

These women require a higher dose of folic acid than that found in Fertifol.

Folic acid can weaken the effect of certain drugs, e.g. against convulsions (epilepsy) or certain anti-cancer drugs.

Certain anticonvulsants (epilepsy) or oral contraceptives can lower folic acid levels. This can prompt the doctor to increase the dosage of folic acid.

Tell your doctor, pharmacist (or druggist) if you have

  • suffer from other illnesses,
  • have allergies or
  • take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally!
