You must not take Aspégic 500 if you:

  • are hypersensitive to acetylsalicylic acid, salicylates, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (anti-rheumatic) drugs and/or analgesic and antipyretic drugs, or to any of the excipients. < h2>When is caution required when using Aspégic 500?

During treatment with Aspégic 500, mucosal ulcers, rarely bleeding or, in isolated cases, perforations (stomach/intestinal perforations) may occur in the upper gastrointestinal tract. These complications can occur at any time during treatment, even without warning symptoms. To reduce this risk, the smallest effective dose should be taken over the shortest possible duration of therapy. Contact your doctor if you have stomach pain and suspect it is related to taking the medicine.

Elderly patients may be more sensitive to drugs than younger adults. It is particularly important that elderly patients report any side effects to their doctor immediately.

In the following situations, you can only take Aspégic 500 with a doctor's prescription and under medical supervision:

  • if you are currently being treated by a doctor for a serious illness.

The risk of bleeding is increased with the concomitant use of drugs associated with a risk of bleeding, antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants (injectable or oral) and other thrombolytics or antihypertensives (medicines that lower blood pressure) and Aspégic 500 should only be administered under close medical supervision.

Taking Aspégic during menstruation carries an increased risk of heavier and longer bleeding.

Adolescents from the age of 12 with fever, flu, chickenpox or other viral diseases may only take Aspégic 500 on the doctor's instructions and only as a second-line remedy. If these diseases lead to disorders of consciousness with vomiting or after they have disappeared, the doctor should be consulted immediately.

Infections

Aspégic 500 may mask signs and symptoms of infection such as fever and pain. It is therefore possible that Aspégic 100 delays adequate treatment of infections, which may increase the risk of complications. This has been seen in bacterial pneumonia and bacterial skin infections associated with chickenpox. If you are taking this medication during an infection and the symptoms of the infection persist or worsen, seek medical advice immediately.

Aspégic 500 can affect the effects of certain medications taken at the same time:

  • The effect of corticosteroids, insulin and/or antidiabetic tablets is increased. The same applies to the effect of digoxin, antispasmodic drugs (antiepileptics) and antidepressants containing lithium, as well as serotonin reuptake inhibitors and their undesirable side effects.
  • The effect of a number of drugs against gout (Probenezid and sulfinpyrazone) and certain diuretics is reduced .
  • The side effects of anti-rheumatic drugs as well as methotrexate can become more pronounced if Aspégic 500 is taken at the same time (methotrexate is delayed, e.g. in chronic polyarthritis, see also «When should Aspégic 500 not be used?»). .
  • Even in small doses, acetylsalicylic acid reduces the excretion of uric acid. This can trigger a gout attack in patients who already have low uric acid excretion.

Seek medical advice if you are already taking other medications.

The effect of acetylsalicylic acid may be reduced if you take gastric protective substances or acid inhibitors. It is therefore recommended to take the two drugs 2 hours apart.

Aspégic 500 can increase the risk of bleeding if you take alcohol at the same time.

There are no studies on the ability to drive or use machines.

The doctor or dentist must be consulted before a surgical procedure or informed of the intake.
