What is Emadine SE and when is it used?

Emadine SE eye drops are intended to treat the typical symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis (itching, redness, conjunctival edema, swollen eyelids).

Emadine SE eye drops can be used in children from the age of three and adults up to the age of 65.

What should be considered?

Note for contact lens wearers

Take off the lenses before using Emadine SE Remove eye drops and wait 15 minutes after putting the medicine in to put the lenses back in.

When should Emadine SE not be used?

In the case of known or suspected hypersensitivity (allergy) to an ingredient in Emadine SE.

When should you be careful when using Emadine SE?

Do not use Emadine SE eye drops for more than 2 weeks without a prescription. If the symptoms persist after this time, a doctor should be consulted. The medicine can be used for up to 6 weeks if prescribed by the doctor.

If you suffer from liver or kidney disease, you should not use Emadine SE without consulting your doctor.

Immediate blurring of vision may occur immediately after using Emadine SE. Do not drive or use machines until the impairment has worn off.

The use and safety of Emadine SE eye drops has not been tested in children under 3 years of age and adults over 65 years of age. Therefore, use in children under 3 years and adults over 65 years is not recommended.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!) or use them on your eyes!

Can Emadine SE be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only on the recommendation of your doctor or pharmacist.

How do you use Emadine SE?

The use and safety of Emadine SE eye drops has not been tested in children under 3 years of age and adults over 65 years of age.

Children from the age of 3 and adults up to the age of 65:

In general, a dosage recommendation of one drop applies to the affected area(s) two to four times a day ) eye(s) is instilled.

Application of Emadine SE eye drops:

  • Immediately before using a single-dose container for the first time, open the foil pouch and remove the strip containing the single-dose containers.
  • Disconnect a single-dose container by pulling. Hold the others tightly and tear off in three places. Start severing at the top of the strip, then in the middle, then at the bottom (Figure 1).
  • Take the detached single-dose container and place the others back in the foil pouch.
  • Take the Emadine SE single-dose container and a mirror.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Open the single-dose container, pointing it slightly upwards, by completely twisting off the cap (Figure 2). .
  • Hold the single-dose container between your thumb and middle finger, point down.
  • Bend your head back. Using a clean finger, pull the eyelid down until there is a gap between the lid and the eye. Place the drop here (Figure 3).
  • Bring the dropper tip close to the eye. Use a mirror if this makes it easier to put in the drops.
  • However, do not touch the eye, the eyelid, the area around the eye or any other surface with the dropper tip, otherwise germs can get into the drops.
  • Apply gentle pressure to the single-dose container to release a drop of Emadine SE eye drops (Figure 3).
  • If using the drops for both eyes, use the same single-dose container and repeat Steps in the other eye.
  • The single-dose container should be discarded immediately after use.
  • Use only one single-dose container at a time. Do not open the foil packaging until you want to use a single-dose container.
  • If the foil packaging has been open for more than a week, the unused single-dose containers must no longer be used.

If you miss taking this medicine, make up for it as soon as possible. If a drop does not get into the eye, add more drops and continue the treatment regularly. If you have used too much of this medicine you can flush your eye(s) with warm water.

Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Emadine SE have?

The following side effects can occur when using Emadine SE eye drops:

Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100)

Eye effects: eye pain, eye itching.

Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 1000)

Eye effects: corneal epithelial defects, corneal discoloration, blurred vision, eye irritation, dry eye, altered or decreased sensation of the eyes, increased tear production, tired eyes, red eyes.

Effects in the body: abnormal dreams, headache, weakness, taste disturbances, skin reactions.

If you react to Emadine SE eye drops with unusual symptoms, you should stop treatment and contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist immediately. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

What else needs to be considered?

The medicinal product may only be used up to the expiry date marked on the container with «EXP».

After completing the treatment, take the medicine to your point of sale (doctor's practice, pharmacy) for professional disposal.

Use by after opening

The single-dose container should be discarded immediately after use. One week after opening the foil pack for the first time, the unused single-dose containers must be discarded.

Storage Instructions

Keep medicines in a safe place and out of the reach of children.

Do not store above 30°C.

Active ingredients

Emedastine (as difumarate). 1 ml solution contains: 0.5 mg emedastine

This medicinal product contains trometamol, sodium chloride, hypromellose 2900 and hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide.
