What is Siccafluid and when is it used?

Siccafluid is a tear substitute that is used to moisten the eye. On the recommendation of the pharmacist or if prescribed by a doctor, it can also be used to treat dry eye syndrome, which can have various causes.

What you need to know about this?

This medicine has been prescribed to you by your doctor or obtained from a pharmacy or drugstore to treat the eye problems you are currently suffering from. Do not use it on your own to treat other diseases or other people.

When should Siccafluid not be used?

This medicine must not be used if you have a known or suspected hypersensitivity (allergy) to any of the ingredients in Siccafluid.

When should caution be taken when taking Siccafluid?

If other eye drops or ointments are also used, there must be a waiting period of 15 minutes between the application of the various medicines. Siccafluid must be instilled last.

Warning for contact lens wearers

Siccafluid must not be used while wearing soft contact lenses. Hard or soft contact lenses should be removed prior to instilling the gel and not reinserted for 15 minutes.

It is important because the preservative benzalkonium chloride in Siccafluid can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and cause discoloration of the contact lenses. You must remove your contact lenses before using this medicine and wait 15 minutes before putting them back in.

Benzalkonium chloride can also cause eye irritation, particularly if you have dry eyes or diseases of the cornea (the clear layer at the front of the eye). Contact your doctor if you experience an unusual sensation, burning sensation or pain in the eye after using this medicine. As vision may be impaired after the instillation of eye gels, you should avoid driving a vehicle or using machines for at least 20 minutes.

Tell your doctor, pharmacist or pharmacist if you have any other illnesses, have allergies or are already taking other medicines (including those you have bought yourself!) ingest or apply externally.

Can Siccafluid be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child if used as intended. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Siccafluid?

Adults: Put Siccafluid into the conjunctival sac and blink your eyelids lightly several times so that the preparation is evenly distributed on the surface of the eye.

1-4 times, as needed Instill 1 drop daily into the conjunctival sac of the eye to be treated. In the case of dry eye syndrome of various causes, the doctor treating you must determine the duration and frequency of use.

The use and safety of Siccafluid in children and adolescents have not been systematically investigated to date.

Stick to the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Siccafluid have?

The following side effects can occur when using Siccafluid:

Very common (affects more than 1 user in 10): Immediately after use, you may experience slight and temporary blurred vision or a burning sensation.

Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100): Sticky eyelids.

You may have a hypersensitivity reaction to one of the ingredients of the medicine.

If you notice side effects not listed here are described, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What else needs to be considered?

To avoid contamination by microbes, wash your hands carefully before use and do not touch your eyes with the tip of the bottle. Close the bottle tightly immediately after use. A bottle of this eye gel may only be used by the person who started it.

Shelf life

The medicine may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container. An opened bottle must be used within 4 weeks.

Storage

This medicine should be kept closed in its original packaging, at room temperature (15-25°C) and out of the reach of children. During the period of use, the bottle should be kept upside down in the pack so that the gel flows out more easily. If there is anything left over from the medicine 4 weeks after opening the bottle, it must be disposed of by the supplier (doctor’s practice, pharmacy or drugstore) in accordance with the regulations.
