Description
What is Vi-De 3 Drops and when is it used?
Vi-De 3 Drops is an alcoholic solution with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Vi-De 3 is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency diseases and calcium metabolism disorders.
Vitamin D is normally produced in the skin under the influence of sunlight. Bone formation disorders can occur with insufficient sun exposure or insufficient intake of vitamin D-enriched foods. Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium from food and ensures normal bone and tooth formation. During growth as well as during pregnancy and lactation and in the event of deficiency symptoms, the organism needs more vitamin D than usual.
Vi-De 3 Drops is usually used on doctor's prescription
- to prevent possible bone softening in premature babies, infants and small children (rickets)
- for the treatment of all forms and stages of rickets
- For prevention of a recognizable risk of vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy people with no food intake disorders (absorption disorders)
- for prevention of recognizable risk of vitamin D deficiency disease with reduced intake from food (malabsorption)
- for prevention in periods of strong growth, pregnancy and lactation
- to treat softening of bones (osteomalacia) in adults
- for the treatment of proven severe vitamin D deficiency.
When should Vi-De 3 Drops not be taken/applied?
Vi-De 3 Drops must not be taken at
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient vitamin D3 or one of the excipients (see «What does Vi-De 3 Drops contain?»)
- Administration of high doses of vitamin D (vitamin D shots)
- Existing or newly diagnosed elevated levels of calcium in the blood or urine, severe renal insufficiency, kidney excretion disorders and all diseases with an existing increase in the calcium level in the blood or urine (hypercalcaemia and/or hypercalciuria).
When is caution required when taking/using Vi-De 3 Drops?
All D vitamins are harmful in high daily doses (more than 1,000-3,000 IU per kilogram of body weight). In healthy adults, the threshold for vitamin D poisoning is between 20,000 and 50,000 IU per day over a longer period of time. Babies and small children can react sensitively to much lower concentrations. When taking Vi-De 3 should therefore be avoided
- the uncontrolled - without a doctor's prescription - continued intake of excessive vitamin D doses for months or even years, especially with the simultaneous intake of calcium and/or vitamin-enriched nutrients (e.g. bottle preparations for infants and small children)
- the administration of additional drip solution after vitamin intakes in high doses (vitamin D shots).
Caution is advised in the case of disorders of the calcium metabolism, kidney diseases such as mild to moderate renal insufficiency, heart diseases in the case of an inflammatory disease with small connective tissue nodes (sarcoidosis) and thyroid diseases. In these cases, the doctor should be consulted.
Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you
- suffer from other diseases
- have allergies or
- take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally!
Can Vi-De 3 Drops be taken/used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may only take Vi-De 3 after consulting your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
How do you use Vi-De 3 Drops?
For infants and young children, Vi-De 3 Drops should be administered with a spoonful of breast milk, milk or pap. If the drops are added to a bottle or porridge meal, make sure they are completely consumed, otherwise the entire amount of active ingredient will not be taken in. Older children should take Vi-De 3 Drops diluted in a glass of water and adults can take Vi-De 3 undiluted or diluted in a glass of water.
