Description

What Omed Antacid Sandoz is and what it is used for

Omed Antacid Sandoz capsules (a drug from the group of "proton pump inhibitors") contain the active ingredient omeprazole and lead to a reduction in gastric acid production by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for acid excretion.

The acids normally produced by the stomach allow food to be digested adequately. For various reasons, however, there can be an increased excretion of gastric acid, which can be felt as a burning sensation (acidic stomach/hyperacidity). When acidic stomach contents back up into the esophagus (acid regurgitation), you may experience a condition called heartburn, a painful or burning sensation just below the breastbone or in the throat.

Omed Antacid Sandoz capsules are used in adults and adolescents over 18 years of age for the short-term treatment of heartburn and acid reflux.

What precautions should be taken?

Various factors can contribute to acid reflux and heartburn: eg overeating, poor diet (e.g. fatty food), obesity, lack of exercise, smoking or excessive alcohol consumption.

If one or more of these factors could be contributing to your symptoms, you should make lifestyle changes if possible.

Frequent heartburn caused by stomach acid can only be treated properly if you follow the instructions in this leaflet and, if necessary, discussed with your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

When should Omed Antacid Sandoz not be taken/used?

Omed Antacid Sandoz must not be taken if you are known to be hypersensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient, other proton pump inhibitors or any of the excipients.

If you need to take clopidogrel (a medicine to prevent heart attack or stroke), you must not take Omed Antacid Sandoz.

Omed Antacid Sandoz must not be taken if you are being treated with atazanavir (a medicine to treat HIV infection).

Omed Antacid Sandoz should not be taken by children and adolescents under the age of 18 without medical supervision.
