NeoCitran Hustensolver is a cough medicine that liquefies the viscous mucus in the airways, promotes expectoration and relieves the urge to cough. NeoCitran Hustensolver is used to relieve coughing and promote expectoration, primarily in the case of colds of the upper respiratory tract.
The effect of NeoCitran Hustensolver is promoted by drinking plenty of it. Smoking contributes to the build-up of mucus in the airways and a cough (“smoker's cough”). You can support the effect of NeoCitran Hustensolver by not smoking.
NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup is sweetened with saccharin and sorbitol and is therefore also suitable for diabetics.
NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient guaifenesin or one of the excipients (see «What does NeoCitran cough suppressant syrup contain?»), or if you suffer from a (rare) hereditary disease of the sugar metabolism, the so-called fructose intolerance. NeoCitran cough suppressant syrup contains sorbitol as a sweetener, a sugar that forms fructose during digestion.
NeoCitran cough suppressant syrup contains 6% alcohol by volume. NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup is not suitable for children and adolescents under the age of 18.
Consult a doctor if
Caution is required if you have gastrointestinal diseases, impaired kidney function or if you suffer from a particular type of muscle weakness (so-called myasthenia gravis).
If hypersensitivity reactions occur (see under: «What side effects can NeoCitran cough reliever have?»), you must stop the treatment immediately and consult a doctor as soon as possible .
You should refrain from taking medicines at the same time that reduce or eliminate the urge to cough (so-called antitussives), as this can lead to an unwanted congestion of the bronchial mucus liquefied by NeoCitran cough reliever, with the risk of bronchial spasm and pneumonia.
When taking certain sedatives or certain muscle-relaxing agents (muscle relaxants) at the same time, their Effect can be enhanced by guaifenesin.
NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup contains 6% by volume ethanol (alcohol). Up to 470 mg of alcohol is taken per single dose (10 ml), equivalent to 12 ml of beer or 5 ml of wine. Health risk for patients suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children and patients at increased risk due to liver disease or epilepsy.
NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup contains sorbitol (1.4 g/5 ml). Sorbitol is a source of fructose. Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) - a rare inherited condition in which a person is unable to break down fructose (see «When should NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup not be used?»).
Sorbitol can cause gastrointestinal problems and can have a slight laxative effect.
This medicinal product contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per 5 ml, i.e. it is almost "sodium-free".
NeoCitran Hustensolver can improve the ability to react, the ability to drive and impair your ability to use tools or machines!

NeoCitran Hustensolver should not be taken during pregnancy unless after consulting a doctor.
Women who are breastfeeding should not take the drug.
For oral use (ingestion) only. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
5-10 ml 4 times a day.
Maximum duration of therapy without medical advice: 7 days
Do not take NeoCitran Hustensolver Syrup together with other medicines for coughs or colds.
The preparation contains 6% by volume of alcohol and is not suitable for children and adolescents under the age of 18.
Measure with the enclosed graduated measuring cup. Rinse the measuring cup with water and dry it after use and before use by another person.
In addition to taking the medicine, drinking plenty of fluids (e.g. tea, fruit juice, etc.) is recommended.
Observe the dosage given in the package leaflet or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
Stop taking NeoCitran Hustensolver and tell your doctor immediately if you experience one or more of the following symptoms, which could be signs of a rare serious allergic reaction:
Like all medicines, NeoCitran Husten syrup can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stomach and intestinal problems can occur, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a feeling of warmth, dizziness or changes in blood counts (the exact frequency of these side effects is unknown).
In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions (allergies) occur, which manifest themselves, among other things, as a skin rash, increased heart rate and breathing difficulties. This particularly affects patients with asthma and hives.
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.
