Biotin Merz 10 mg is a vitamin preparation for the prevention and treatment of biotin deficiency. Swissmedic-approved patient informationBiotin Merz® 10 mgMerz Pharma (Schweiz) AGThe effectiveness and safety of Biotin Merz 10 mg have been verified by Swissmedic checked only briefly. The approval of Biotin Merz 10 mg is based on Biotin 10 mg, Aenova, as of July 2019, which contains the same active ingredient(s) and is approved in Germany. What is Biotin Merz 10 mg and when is it used?Biotin Merz 10 mg is a vitamin preparation for the prevention and treatment of biotin deficiency. What should be considered?Biotin, which is widespread in food, occurs both bound to protein (food of animal origin) and in a free form. The daily requirement in humans can only be estimated. The amount of 50 μg to 200 μg consumed per day with average dietary habits is considered sufficient. Even high single doses of biotin did not induce any pharmacological effects. Deficiency symptoms do not normally occur in humans. A deficiency disease, the so-called egg protein damage, can only be triggered by the prolonged intake of very large amounts of raw protein and in dialysis patients. In addition, in the very rare case of biotin-dependent, multiple carboxylase deficiency, the need for biotin is increased due to a genetic defect. When should Biotin Merz 10 mg not be taken? If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to biotin or any of the other ingredients of Biotin Merz 10 mg. When is caution required when taking Biotin Merz 10 mg?The following describes when you should only take Biotin Merz 10 mg under certain conditions and only with particular caution may apply. Please ask your doctor about this. This also applies if this information applied to you in the past. Please only take Biotin Merz 10 mg after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from a sugar intolerance. The avidin contained in raw egg white can form a non-resorbable and therefore biologically ineffective complex with biotin. Biotin and raw egg protein should therefore not be taken at the same time. There is evidence that medicines used to treat seizures (anticonvulsants) lower the level of biotin in the blood plasma. Please note that this information may also apply to medicines that have been used recently. Biotin Merz 10 mg contains 10 mg biotin per tablet. If you are going to have a laboratory test, you must tell your doctor or the laboratory staff that you are taking or have recently taken Biotin Merz 10 mg, as biotin can affect the results of such tests. Depending on the test, results may be falsely high or falsely low due to biotin. Your doctor may ask you to stop taking Biotin Merz 10 mg before laboratory tests are carried out. You should also be aware that other products you may be taking, such as multivitamins or hair, skin and nail supplements, may also contain biotin and may affect laboratory test results. Please tell your doctor or laboratory staff if you are taking such products. So far there are no indications that the ability to drive and use machines is impaired by the use of Biotin Merz 10 mg. There are no special precautions required. Tell your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other diseases, have allergies ortake other medicines (including those you bought yourself!)!
