What is VICKS Sinex and when is it used?

VICKS Sinex is a solution for treating swollen nasal mucosa to make it easier to breathe through the nasal passages when you have a cold. VICKS Sinex dosing spray contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride. Applied in the nose, VICKS Sinex constricts the blood vessels there and thereby causes the nasal mucosa to decongest. This makes breathing through the nose easier and reduces mucus secretion. The effect usually starts within 5-10 minutes and lasts about 6 hours.

When should VICKS Sinex not be used?

It must not be used in children under 6 years of age and in case of hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or any of the other ingredients. Do not use in case of inflammation of the nasal mucosa (rhinitis sicca), inflammation or skin damage in the area of ​​the nostrils and if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (glaucoma).

When should you be careful when using VICKS Sinex?

Inform your doctor if you have chronic nasal problems. VICKS Sinex must not be used for more than 5-7 days without medical advice, as prolonged use can cause damage to the nasal mucosa or inflammation of the nasal mucosa, with symptoms of a cold.

Use with caution in patients who are being treated with certain medications for depression (MAOIs) or have been treated within the last 2 weeks, who have high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, angina pectoris and hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus.

This applies in particular to the use of medicines for high blood pressure, mental illnesses and Parkinson's disease.

Prolonged use and higher than recommended doses may impair the ability to drive and use machines.

VICKS Sinex must not be used on infants and children under the age of 6 years. If used for more than 7 days, a doctor must be consulted.

Observe the dosage given in the package leaflet or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can VICKS Sinex have?

Uncommon paraesthesia, irritation, burning and dryness of the nasal mucosa, mouth and throat, sneezing, nausea, headache, eye irritation and redness, insomnia, nervousness, tremor, restlessness, anxietyirritability, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate or palpitations, cardiac arrhythmia (irregularity of the heartbeat), bladder emptying disorders, which will pass after reducing the dose or stopping. Occasionally, especially after the effect has worn off, a stronger feeling of a 'blocked nose' and loss of effect can occur.

A temporary increase in blood flow to the nasal mucosa after the effect has worn off is common.

If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or pharmacist.

What else should you watch out for?

The Medicines may only be used up to the date marked “EXP” on the container. Do not use for more than 12 months after first opening.
