What is Kalcipos-D3 500/800 and when is it used?

Kalcipos-D3 500/800 contains the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3 and is used to treat and prevent vitamin D and calcium deficiency in adults and to support the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

What should be considered?

Only a doctor can determine a calcium and vitamin D deficiency. If this is the case or if there is a high risk of such deficiencies, they can only be remedied by long-term supplementation with the two active ingredients.

When should Kalcipos-D3 500/800 not be used?

  • If you are hypersensitive to one of the components of Kalcipos-D3 500/800;
  • If you have an increased calcium content in the blood or increased calcium excretion in the urine and/or diseases that could lead to ( e.g. certain cancers and bone diseases or certain diseases of the parathyroid gland);
  • if you suffer from kidney or bladder stones or calcifications in the kidney,
  • if you have severely reduced kidney function;
  • if you have a vitamin D overdose,
  • if you suffer from osteoporosis due to being bedridden for a long time.
  • If you are bedridden for a long time and have too much calcium in your blood and/or urine.
  • When should caution be taken when taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800?

    Even if this preparation has a low vitamin D content, people with sarcoidosis (systemic disease of the connective tissue with granuloma formation) should only use this preparation after consulting a doctor.

    In the case of prolonged treatment and/or mild renal insufficiency, your doctor should periodically measure the amount of vitamin D in the urine different amounts of calcium.

    Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you are using or have recently used other medicines.

    In the case of treatment with cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin in cardiac insufficiency) or thiazide diuretics (water-propelling medicines) administration of Kalcipos-D3 500/800 requires regular monitoring by the doctor.

    If you are taking medicines containing fluoride, zinc and iron at the same time or if you have to take bisphosphonates or other preparations against osteoporosis, an interval of at least 2 hours should be observed before taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800.

    In the case of oral treatment with tetracyclines, there should be an interval of at least 3 hours before taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800.

    In the case of simultaneous oral treatment with quinolone antibiotics, these should be taken 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800.

    In the case of simultaneous treatment with levothyroxine (medicine against thyroid hypotension function) should be at least 4 hours between taking Levothyroxine and Kalcipos-D3 500/800.

    Concomitant treatment with orlistat, colestyramine (certain drugs used to treat high cholesterol) or laxative drugs may reduce the absorption of vitamin D from the intestine.

    Concomitant treatment with phenytoin or barbiturates may reduce the vitamin D3 effect.

    At the same time Treatment with corticosteroids reduces calcium absorption.

    If you are also taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself) that contain calcium or vitamin D, you should only do this under strict medical supervision.

    If you take the medicine for a long time, especially if you are restricted in your movements, your doctor should periodically check your serum and urine calcium levels and kidney function (creatinine level in the blood).

    Kalcipos-D3 500 /800 should not be taken at the same time as food that contains oxalic acid (e.g. in spinach, rhubarb) or phytic acid (in whole grains). They can hinder the absorption of calcium. Taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800 and thisThe food should be offset by at least 2 hours.

    If you are taking alkaline substances (e.g. medicines to bind gastric acid) at the same time, this can lead to a milk-alkaline syndrome (calcium metabolism disorder) with the risk of kidney damage and soft tissue calcification. Simultaneous intake should be avoided at all costs.

    Kalcipos-D3 500/800 contains sucrose and should therefore not be taken by patients with sucrase-isomaltase deficiency (rare metabolic disease).

    How do you use Kalcipos-D3 500/800?

    Adults and elderly patients

    Take 1 film-coated tablet once a day. The film-coated tablets can be taken whole, or crushed or divided to make swallowing easier. The time of administration is irrelevant.

    The calcium dose in Kalcipos-D3 500/800 is below the recommended total daily dose. Kalcipos-D3 500/800 is therefore primarily intended for patients with an additional need for vitamin D who already take around 500-1000 mg of calcium with their food every day. The existing dietary calcium intake should be estimated by the doctor.

    Kalcipos-D3 500/800 is not intended for the treatment of children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

    If you have taken more Kalcipos-D3 500/800 than you should

    If you have taken more of this medicine than instructed or if a child has accidentally taken this medicine a doctor should be consulted to clarify the risks. Signs of an overdose may include loss of appetite, thirst, abnormally high urine output, nausea, vomiting and constipation.

    Observe the dosage provided in the package insert or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

    What side effects can Kalcipos-D3 500/800 have?

    The following side effects can occur when taking Kalcipos-D3 500/800: Occasionally increased calcium content in the blood or urine. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea as well as skin problems such as itching, skin rash and nettle rash can occur.

    In very rare cases, overdose in connection with the intake of alkaline substances (e.g. medicines to bind gastric acid) can cause a milk-alkaline syndrome (see "When should caution be taken when taking it?").

    In isolated cases, hypersensitivity reactions with swelling of the face can occur , in and around the mouth or throat. In such cases, the treatment must be stopped and a doctor must be consulted immediately.

    Special patient groups

    Patients with impaired kidney function are at risk of exceptionally high phosphate levels in the blood, which initially have no symptoms except for itching, but in the longer term, due to a drop in the calcium level, muscle cramps or cardiac arrhythmias, as well as the formation of kidney stones and calcium deposits in the kidneyss (symptoms such as blood in the urine, back or abdominal pain can occur).
