The active ingredient in Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft is the vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the evening primrose (Ze 358). This oil contains an important fatty acid, gamolenic acid (γ-linolenic acid). Normally, gamolenic acid is made in the body from the fatty acids ingested in the diet. The concentration of gamolenic acid in the blood is reduced in patients with skin diseases that manifest themselves as itchy eczema. This is suspected to be a reason for the skin disorders. With the oil of the evening primrose seeds, gamolenic acid is supplied directly to the body and the deficiency compensated.
Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft is used for the supportive treatment and symptomatic relief of atopic, eczematous skin diseases with accompanying itching.
If you need other medication to treat eczema, Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft should only be used on the recommendation of a doctor es or pharmacists.
This medicinal product contains less than 1.5 mg of usable carbohydrates per single dose.
Patients who take certain medications for psychiatric disorders (so-called phenothiazines) have experienced isolated cases of epileptosis during treatment with Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft ic seizures. Therefore, caution is advised in patients taking phenothiazines or suffering from epilepsy. If this applies to you, talk to your doctor before taking Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft. Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft can affect the absorption and effectiveness of other medications due to its oil content.

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child if used as intended. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice. Especially during the first 3 months of pregnancy, Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft should only be taken after consulting a doctor.
Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft can be taken while breastfeeding, since gamolenic acid is a natural component of breast milk.
Unless otherwise prescribed, adults take the contents of 2× a day 2-3 capsules, children aged 1-12 years take the contents of 1-2 capsules twice a day.
The contents of the capsules are taken with meals. The neck-shaped end of the capsule is cut off and the oily capsule content is squeezed out. The capsules can also be pierced with a needle. The oil can then be swallowed directly, mixed with milk or added directly to food.
It is recommended to start the treatment with the highest dosage indicated, i.e. adults with the content of 3 capsules twice a day and children aged 1-12 years with the content of 2 capsules twice a day. As soon as the treatment is successful, the treatment can be continued at a lower dosage or, if necessary, stopped. The following side effects can occur when taking Epogam 1000 Vegicaps soft: Occasionally nausea, digestive disorders including diarrhea and headaches can occur. In rare cases, allergic symptoms have been observed, which manifest themselves in the form of skin rashes, abdominal pain and, in isolated cases, an increase in temperature.
It should be noted that any hypersensitivity reaction can be serious. Due to mechanical stress during transport, it can happen in very rare cases that individual capsules are damaged and oil escapes from the capsule as a result. However, the escape of oil from a capsule does not affect the quality or effectiveness of the undamaged capsules.
