Redoxon + Zinc is used: at an increased risk of infectious diseases; in the case of colds; to cover an increased need for vitamin C and zinc, for example in smokers, in the case of infectious diseases or after operations and for wound healing. Swissmedic-approved patient information Redoxon® + ZincBayer (Schweiz) AGWhat is Redoxon + Zinc and when is it used? Redoxon + Zinc contains vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and the trace element zinc as active ingredients. Vitamin C and zinc intervene in a variety of vital metabolic processes via different mechanisms. A lack of vitamin C and zinc can weaken the body's defense against infections. Vitamin C and Zinc work in different but complementary ways to support the body's natural defenses against disease. Redoxon + Zinc is used:in the case of an increased risk of infectious diseases;in the case of colds;to cover an increased need for vitamin C and zinc, for example in smokers, in the case of infectious diseases or after operations as well as for wound healing. What should be considered?Since the body cannot produce vitamin C itself, it must be produced with the food to be ingested. Vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamin C, especially citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits. Larger amounts of vitamin C are also found in the liver and kidneys, but not in meat, cereals and dairy products. Cooking, watering, keeping warm and storing (including freezing) can greatly reduce the vitamin C content. Zinc - like all trace elements required by the organism - must be supplied with food. Zinc is mainly found in animal products, especially meat and liver; to a lesser extent, it is also found in plant products such as cereals. Diabetics who carry out the glucose determination in their urine themselves should not take Redoxon + Zinc a few days before the test because vitamin C affects the test result. Redoxon + Zinc effervescent tablets and chewable tablets are sugar-free and suitable for diabetics (1 chewable tablet = 10.7 kJ = 2.56 kcal; 1 effervescent tablet = 14.2 kJ = 3.4 kcal). When should Redoxon + Zinc not be used?If you have severe kidney dysfunction, if you have kidney stones, have increased oxalic acid excretion, if you have severe kidney failure ( including if you are on dialysis) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Redoxon + Zinc or have an iron storage disease, you must not take Redoxon + Zinc. If you experience an allergic reaction while being treated with Redoxon + Zinc, you must stop taking the product. When is caution required when taking Redoxon + Zinc?Patients with kidney stones may only take more than 500 mg of vitamin C daily after consulting their doctor or . Long-term treatment with zinc supplements in excess of 15 mg per day is not recommended without medical supervision. Redoxon + Zinc is sweetened with aspartame. Patients with phenylketonuria should therefore only take the preparation after consulting their doctor. If you suffer from (very rare) fructose intolerance, you should not take Redoxon + Zinc because of the sorbitol it contains (fructose is produced during the metabolic breakdown of the sweetener sorbitol). Drugs used to prevent pregnancy (oral contraceptives) and certain drugs used to treat allergies and inflammation (corticosteroids) lead to increased breakdown of vitamin C. Certain drugs that inhibit bone breakdown (calcitonin) increase vitamin C consumption. Salicylic acid derivatives (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid), certain antibiotics (tetracyclines) and certain drugs to treat epilepsy (barbiturates) reduce the availability of vitamin C in the body through reduced absorption or increased excretion. High doses of vitamin C can lower blood levels of cyclosporine, indinavir, warfarin, and disulfiram. If vitamin C and antacids containing aluminum are taken at the same time, aluminum can be absorbed to a greater extent. Particular caution is therefore required if you suffer from renal insufficiency.
