Zovirax Lip cold sore cream
Haleon Schweiz AG
What is Zovirax Lip and when is it used?
Zovirax Lip cold sore cream contains acyclovir as the active ingredient.
Aciclovir inhibits the proliferation of herpes viruses without affecting normal metabolic processes. The herpes viruses cause blisters to form on the skin and mucous membranes.
Zovirax Lip cold sore cream is used externally for mild, localized cold sores on the lips.
When should Zovirax Lip not be used?
Zovirax Lip cold sore cream should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredients aciclovir, valaciclovir or to propylene glycol or any other excipient listed in the composition (see the section "What does Zovirax Lip contain?").
When should you be careful when using Zovirax Lip?
Zovirax Lip cold sore cream should only be used on cold sores on the lips and should not be applied to mucous membranes (e.g. mouth, eyes or genital area). Contact of the cream with the eyes should be avoided. The dosage should also not be increased. If the cold sores do not heal after 10 days at the latest, or if they even get worse, you should seek medical advice.
If the cold sores are particularly severe or extensive, you should consult a doctor. Severely immunosuppressed people should contact a doctor for any infection.
Cold sores are contagious. Therefore, you should wash your hands before applying the cream and after applying the cream, make sure that you do not touch other parts of your body with your fingers before washing them, especially not your eyes.

If Zovirax Lip cold sore cream is used while breastfeeding, breastfeeding does not need to be interrupted.
How do you use Zovirax Lip?
For children under 12 years of age, the doctor must prescribe Zovirax Lip for the first time.
Adults and children over 2 years of age
should apply Zovirax Lip cold sore cream 5 times a day at intervals of approximately 4 hours. It is recommended that the cream be applied immediately when the first symptoms such as tingling, itching or burning appear. However, treatment can still be started if the cold sores have already formed.
Hands should be washed before and after treatment to prevent the infection from spreading.
If you forget to apply Zovirax Lip cold sore cream, you should do so as soon as possible and then continue with the usual regimen.
The treatment usually lasts 4 days. If healing is not complete after this time, Zovirax Lip can be used for up to 10 days. If the infection has not healed after this time, you must consult your doctor.
Follow the dosage instructions given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is working too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
