Vita-merfen ointment
Vita-Merfen®, ointment VERFORA SA What is Vita-Merfen ointment and when is it used? Vita-Merfen ointment contains two disinfecting substances, chlorhexidine digluconate and benzoxonium chloride, which act quickly on the microorganisms responsible for the infection, as well as retinol palmitate (vitamin A). The combination of disinfecting substances with retinol palmitate for the treatment of small wounds promotes wound healing and at the same time prevents secondary infection. Vita-Merfen ointment is suitable for treating all types of small wounds (scratches, abrasions, cuts), cracks, tears and minor burns (1st degree). What should be taken into account? Large, heavily contaminated or deep wounds, e.g. bites or stab wounds, must be treated by a doctor (risk of tetanus and other infections). If the size of the injury does not decrease after a while, or if the wound does not heal after 10-14 days, a doctor should also be consulted. This is also recommended if the edge of the wound is very red, if it suddenly swells, if severe pain occurs or if the injury leads to fever (risk of blood poisoning). When should Vita-Merfen ointment not be used? You must not use Vita-Merfen ointment if you are allergic to chlorhexidine digluconate, benzoxonium chloride or another quaternary ammonium compound, vitamin A or its derivatives or to an excipient in this preparation (see "What does Vita-Merfen ointment contain?"). When should you be careful when using Vita-Merfen ointment? recommended? Vita-Merfen is only intended for external use. Avoid Vita-Merfen coming into contact with the eyes, ears (ear canal) and mucous membranes (such as the mouth and nose). If Vita-Merfen ointment accidentally gets into the eyes or comes into contact with the mucous membranes, please rinse immediately with plenty of water. Vita-Merfen must not be ingested. Vita-Merfen should not be used too often or for a long period of time without a doctor's advice. In children under 2 years of age, Vita-Merfen ointment may only be used after a doctor's prescription. If you notice skin irritation or unusual sensitivity, you should stop using Vita-Merfen ointment. Due to the low absorption rate of the active ingredients, no interactions with other medicines are expected. Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies, are taking other medicines or applying them externally! Can Vita-Merfen ointment be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding? Pregnancy: The preparation can be used in small amounts (on small wounds) during pregnancy. Systematic scientific studies on the use of chlorhexidine digluconate and benzoxonium chloride in pregnant women have not been conducted. The potential risk for humans is unknown, but is believed to be very low because chlorhexidine digluconate and benzoxonium chloride are only slightly absorbed after application to the skin. Blood concentrations are likely to be lower after local application of vitamin A than after oral administration. In large doses administered orally, vitamin A may increase the risk of malformations in the embryo. Contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you want to use the product during pregnancy, especially during the first three months. Breastfeeding: It is not known whether chlorhexidine digluconate and benzoxonium chloride are excreted in breast milk. Vitamin A passes into breast milk. During breastfeeding, Vita-Merfen can be used in small amounts (on small wounds), but not on the breast. As a precautionary measure, you should wash your nipples thoroughly with water before breastfeeding. How do you use Vita-Merfen ointment? Use this medicine as described below or as directed by your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. Vita-Merfen is only intended for use on the skin. Adults and children over 2 years: Apply the ointment 2 to 3 times l Apply a thin layer daily to the skin areas to be treated, either directly or using a sterile swab. Massage in gently for non-painful injuries. Vita-Merfen ointment may only be used on children under 2 years of age if prescribed by a doctor. If you have used more Vita-Merfen than you should, or if you have accidentally taken Vita-Merfen, contact your doctor. Follow the dosage stated in the package leaflet or prescribed by your doctor. If you think that the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. What side effects can Vita-Merfen ointment have? Like all medicines, Vita-Merfen ointment can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Certain side effects are very rare but can be serious, for example severe allergic reactions with difficulty breathing, dizziness (anaphylactic reaction), swelling of the face and neck (angioedema). If you experience any of these symptoms, stop using Vita-Merfen ointment immediately and seek medical advice immediately. The following side effects may occur when using Vita-Merfen ointment: Rare (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000) Skin irritation. Very rare (affects less than 1 user in 10,000) Hives (urticaria), severe allergic reactions. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet. What else should be noted? The medicine may only be used until the date indicated on the container. Storage instructions Store at room temperature (15-25°C) and out of the reach of children. Bleach water (hypochlorite) and other substances that release chlorine can cause laundry to turn brown when they come into contact with chlorhexidine. Washing tests have shown that detergents containing one or more bleaching agents (for example perborate) remove these stains. Your doctor, pharmacist or druggist can provide you with further information. These people have the detailed technical information. What is contained in Vita-Merfen ointment?
