Description

ialugen Plus Akut®

IBSA Institut Biochimique SA

What is ialugen Plus Akut and when is it used?

ialugen Plus Akut contains the active ingredient sodium hyaluronate, a natural substance that accelerates scarring, and silver sulfadiazine, which has an antibacterial effect.

For self-medication, ialugen Plus Akut is indicated for the treatment of minor burns and small infected wounds, as well as for the prevention of infections.

What should be observed?

Any burn must be cooled immediately with cold water; Blisters heal better if left untouched.

Extensive or severe burns and ulcers must be treated under medical supervision.

Extensive wounds, such as bites and puncture wounds, which are often infected or deep, require medical treatment (risk of tetanus).

If the wound does not decrease in size within a certain period of time or if the wound has not healed after 10-14 days, you should consult a doctor. This also applies if the wound edges are very red, if the wound swells and becomes painful, or if fever occurs (risk of blood poisoning).

When should ialugen Plus Akut not be used?

ialugen Plus Akut should not be used in the following cases:

  • during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy (last 3 months of pregnancy);
  • in premature babies, newborns, and infants in the first two months of life, because sulfonamides can cause brain damage (kernicterus);
  • in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

When should caution be exercised when using ialugen Plus Akut?

In the following situations, caution is advised. ialugen Plus Akut is only available on medical prescription:

  • if you are allergic to sulfonamides;
  • if you suffer from impaired kidney function;
  • if you suffer from impaired liver function or liver disease;
  • if you suffer from glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a rare hereditary metabolic disorder that can lead to damage to red blood cells caused by various medications);
  • if you suffer from acute porphyria (a disorder of the formation of red blood pigment);
  • if you have been diagnosed with a pathological change in your blood count with a reduction in white blood cells (leukopenia);
  • if you know that you are a "slow acetylator," which means that certain medications are broken down more slowly in your liver

Do not use this medicine on large areas of skin injury or damage without consulting your doctor.

Before treatment with ialugen Plus Akut, the wound should be cleaned. If necrotic deposits (dead tissue) are present, they must be removed by a doctor.

Under the influence of sunlight, a graying of the skin (= argyrosis) may occur due to the deposition of silver. The areas of the body treated with ialugen Plus Akut should be protected by covering them with a sterile, breathable dressing or suitable clothing.

Severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), which are potentially life-threatening, have been reported in association with the use of silver sulfadiazine. These initially appear as reddish, target-shaped or circular patches (often with a blister in the center) on the trunk. The rash may progress to widespread blistering or peeling of the skin. Additional symptoms to look out for include open, painful sores (ulcers) in the mouth, throat, nose, and genital area, as well as red and swollen eyes (conjunctivitis). These potentially life-threatening skin reactions are often accompanied by flu-like symptoms (headache, fever, and body aches). If you experience a rash or the other symptoms mentioned, stop using ialugen Plus Akut and consult a doctor immediately: tell them that you are using this medicine.

ialugen Plus Akut contains a maximum of 1 mg sodium dodecyl sulfate (sodium lauril sulfate E487). Sodium dodecyl sulfate may cause local skin reactions (such as a stinging or burning sensation) or may worsen skin reactions caused by other products applied to the same area of skin.

Using ialugen Plus Akut with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are suffering fromare taking or using other medicines, have recently taken or used other medicines, or intend to take or use other medicines.

Since a small amount of the active ingredient silver sulfadiazine contained in ialugen Plus Akut can be absorbed by the body, interactions with other medicines are possible, e.g. with medicines to inhibit blood clotting or to treat diabetes. If other creams containing protein-splitting enzymes are applied at the same time, the silver component of ialugen Plus Akut can reduce the effectiveness of the enzymes.

Effect on the ability to drive and operate machinery

ialugen Plus Akut has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and operate machinery.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist, or druggist if you suffer from any other illness, have allergies, or are taking or applying other medications (including those you have bought yourself!) externally.

Can ialugen Plus Akut be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Do not use ialugen Plus Akut during the third trimester of your pregnancy (last three months of pregnancy).

During other stages of pregnancy, you should only use ialugen Plus Akut if prescribed by your doctor.

Do not use ialugen Plus Akut while breastfeeding unless prescribed by your doctor. In particular, premature babies, newborns with jaundice (yellowing of the skin or the normally white sclera of the eye), or newborns with suspected or known glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a metabolic disorder of red blood cells) should not be breastfed while using ialugen Plus Akut.

If your doctor prescribes ialugen Plus Akut while breastfeeding, do not apply the cream to your breasts.

How do you use ialugen Plus Akut?

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, apply the cream directly to the injury in a layer at least 2-3 mm thick. The application must be renewed every 24 hours after any remaining cream has been thoroughly washed away with water.

For the duration of use, see "What should be considered?".

Follow the dosage stated in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you believe the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or druggist.

The following side effects may occur when using ialugen Plus Akut:

Redness, itching, eczema, dermatitis, or swelling (edema) at the application site, hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash), graying of the skin (with prolonged use or under the influence of sunlight).

If fever or an allergy in the form of an itchy skin rash occurs unexpectedly while using ialugen Plus Akut, consult your doctor.

Rarely, exposure to sunlight may cause graying of the skin. may occur.

Rarely, a blue-gray discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes may occur after prolonged, extensive application. In this case, discontinue treatment and notify your doctor.

When treating extensive areas of skin with ialugen Plus Akut, the side effects known to occur after oral administration of sulfonamides (e.g., changes in blood count, impaired renal function, severe skin reactions) cannot be ruled out.
