What is Traumaplant and when is it used?

Traumaplant is a plant-based ointment preparation. The contained extract of comfrey (Symphytum) is used for bruises and sprains (sports and accidental injuries), joint and muscle pain and reduces swelling and pain. Traumaplant supports the healing of minor injuries. Traumaplant is indicated for the treatment of blunt (i.e. bloodless) injuries with pain and inflammation of the joints and muscles, sprains, contusions and bruises as well as abrasions or other superficial, bloodless skin injuries.

When must Traumaplant not be used or only with caution?

Traumaplant must not be used if there is a known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients (see «What does Traumaplant contain?»), if the skin is broken (bloody skin injuries). Do not use on mucous membranes. Do not use with airtight compresses. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands after use. Do not use on children under 6 years of age. If the symptoms do not improve or worsen within 10 days, a doctor must be consulted.

Sorbic acid can cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis). Traumaplant contains 120 mg propylene glycol per 3 g ointment, equivalent to 40 mg/g.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist or your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or take other medicines (including those you bought yourself!) or use them externally.

Can Traumaplant be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

How do you use Traumaplant?

For external use only.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor and depending on the size of the body part to be treated and the severity of the symptoms, adults wear 1 to 5 times Apply approx. 2-3 g of ointment daily (equivalent to a 6-9 cm strand of ointment) to the skin over the painful parts of the body or on the injured area.

The same dosage is recommended for adolescents and children from 6 years of age as for adults. The treatment should not exceed 10 days.

The use and safety of Traumaplant in children under the age of 6 has not been adequately tested.

Stick to the dosage given in the package insert or prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Traumaplant have?

The following side effects can occur when using Traumaplant: in rare cases, allergic reactions with reddening of the skin, skin rash, itching. In the event of a specific allergic reaction (skin rash), the treatment should be discontinued and a doctor consulted.

If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked "Use by" on the container.
