What is Widmer wound ointment and when is it used?

Due to the silver, Widmer wound ointment has slightly bactericidal (germ-killing) properties and due to the white clay it has adsorptive (liquid-absorbing) properties. It protects against infections and replaces the bandage for small wounds. Wound ointment Widmer is used for minor skin damage, minor injuries, minor abrasions and minor burns.

What should be considered?

Large, heavily soiled and deep wounds as well as bite and puncture wounds require medical treatment (risk of tetanus). If the size of a wound remains unchanged for some time, or if the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, a doctor's visit is also necessary. The same applies if the edges of the wound are very red, the wound suddenly swells, is very painful, or the injury is accompanied by fever (danger of blood poisoning).

When should Widmer wound ointment not be used?

If you are hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, you should not use Widmer wound ointment, or for severe, open and deep wounds. Such injuries deserve medical attention. Contact with the eyes should be avoided.

When is caution required when using Widmer wound ointment?

If preparations for cleaning wounds containing proteolytic enzymes are used at the same time, the silver contained in Widmer wound ointment can reduce the effect of these enzymes.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist or your doctor, your pharmacist or druggist if you

  • Suffer from other diseases,
  • have allergies or
  • take other medicines (including those you bought yourself) or use them externally!

Can Widmer wound ointment be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child if used as intended. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Widmer wound ointment?

The wound ointment is generally applied to the area to be treated with a thickness of a knife back and, if necessary, protected by a light bandage. Repeated treatment is indicated.

There is no age restriction for the use of Widmer wound ointment for minor skin damage (minor injuries, minor abrasions and minor burns).

Keep to the dosage specified in the package insert or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Widmer wound ointment have?

No side effects have been observed with Widmer wound ointment when used as directed.

If you do notice any side effects that are not described here, you should consult your doctor, pharmacist or druggist or your Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
