What is Lacryvisc eye gel and when to use it?

Lacryvisc eye gel is used to moisten the eyes and to treat mild eye irritation. On the recommendation of the doctor, pharmacist or druggist, the preparation can also be used for "dry eyes" of various causes.

When shouldn't Lacryvisc eye gel be used?

In case of known or suspected hypersensitivity (allergy) to an ingredient or auxiliary substance of Lacryvisc eye gel.

When should you be careful when using Lacryvisc eye gel?

  • If your eye symptoms have not improved after 2-3 days, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or Consult a druggist.
  • If the symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear (e.g. reduced visual acuity, eye pain, tearing, persistent reddening of the eyes), you should see your doctor immediately .

Because blurred vision and other visual disturbances may occur after the use of an eye gel, driving or operating machines should be avoided until these disturbances have resolved.

Note for contact lens wearers

Remove the lenses from your eyes before applying the eye gel and wait 30 minutes before putting them back on your eyes.

Lacryvisc eye gel contains benzalkonium, a preservative that may discolour soft contact lenses.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!) or use them on your eyes.

Can Lacryvisc eye gel be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If Lacryvisc eye gel is used according to the instructions, there are no known risks for the unborn child or the infant. However, as a precaution, you should consult your doctor, pharmacist or druggist before using the gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How do you use Lacryvisc eye gel?

Adults: In general, instill 1 drop of gel into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 4 times a day or as needed.

The application and safety in children and adolescents has not yet been systematically tested.

NOTE: The tube must be held vertically over the eye when instilling in order to place the drop optimally on the eye, whereby the watery gel liquefies immediately under the blink of the eye. This practically rules out the formation of haze.

Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Lacryvisc eye gel have?
