What is Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea and when is it used?

Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea contains dried St. John's Wort and finely cut quality. Traditionally, St. John's wort is said to have calming and balancing properties. Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea is used for depressed mood, mood swings and imbalance.

What should be considered?

If the symptoms last longer than 1 month, it is advisable to consult a doctor and have the causes clarified .

When should Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea not be used or only with caution?

Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea should not be used if there is a known hypersensitivity to St. John's Wort or if there is a known hypersensitivity to light. St. John's wort preparations may only be used in children from the age of 6 years on the express instructions of a doctor. St. John's wort preparations can weaken the effect of other medicines! Sidroga St. John's wort tea must therefore not be used with the following medicines:

Certain medicines to suppress the immune system (e.g. containing the active substance ciclosporin, tacrolimus or sirolimus), such as those given after organ transplants.

Anti-retroviral drugs in HIV treatment from the group of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (e.g. nevirapine) and HIV proteinase inhibitors (e.g. indinavir).

Certain anticancer drugs (cytostatics e.g. imatinib, irinotecan).

Tablets to inhibit blood clotting (so-called oral anticoagulants, e.g. with the active ingredients acenocoumarol, phenprocoumon or warfarin).

Precautionary measures

In very rare cases, and especially in light-skinned people, skin reactions such as skin reddening similar to sunburn can occur after taking St. John's wort preparations and subsequent exposure to sunlight. People who are sensitive to light should therefore protect themselves from prolonged direct sunlight during the time of application and avoid visiting solariums. Also, Sidroga St. John's wort tea should only be taken with the following prescription drugs under medical supervision (relative contraindications): digoxin (so-called cardiac glycosides for heart failure); birth control pills or other hormonal contraceptives (e.g. depot injections, implants placed under the skin, hormone patches placed on the skin, hormone-releasing products used vaginally, etc.) due to bleeding between periods and the risk of an unwanted pregnancy; methadone; certain antidepressants (medicines used to treat depression) or other serotonergic drugs (e.g. amitriptyline, fluoxetine or buspirone, etc.); certain medicines for elevated blood fats such as simvastatin (however, co-medication with pravastatin seems possible); Midazolam (a strong sleeping pill or sedative from the benzodiazepine group) or steroid hormones such as cortisone and prednisone, which must be taken or given by infusion. If, in addition to Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea, you are taking other medicines, especially those prescribed by your doctor, please discuss this with your doctor.

Furthermore, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking or using other medicines (even those you bought yourself!).

Can Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child when used as directed. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea?

Adults take 1 cup 2 to 3 times a day after meals. (The tea is not suitable for children.)

Preparation: Pour boiling water over one tea bag per cup and let the bag steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Then take out the tea bag and squeeze it out lightly over the cup. Use only one tea bag per cup and only sweeten your tea after removing the tea bag from the cup. You can use both natural and artificial sugar for sweetening.

Sidroga St. John's wort tea should be taken for at least 14 days until it takes effect. A therapy duration of 4-6 weeks is recommended. Long-term use should only be carried out under medical supervision.

Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea have?

The following side effects can occur when taking or using Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea:

Occasionally mild gastrointestinal complaints or slight tiredness. In the event of reddening of the skin, Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea should no longer be taken and the skin symptoms that have occurred should be clarified by a doctor.

If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.

What else needs to be considered?

Sidroga St. John's Wort Tea is to be stored at room temperature (15-25 °C), protected from light, in a dry place and out of the reach of to keep for children.

The double-chamber bags in aroma protection packaging may only be used up to the end marked on the container with «Exp.» designated date are used.
