What is Kamillosan mouth and throat spray and when is it used?

Kamillosan mouth and throat spray contains effective chamomile components (essential oil) in quantified amounts. Chamomile is characterized by anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipruritic, astringent, slightly disinfecting properties with calming, deodorizing, cooling and antibacterial effects.

Kamillosan mouth and throat spray is used for the treatment and prevention (prophylaxis) of inflammatory diseases in the mouth and throat. When should Kamillosan mouth and throat spray not be used or only with caution?

If you are known to be hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, Kamillosan mouth and throat spray should not be used (see Composition).

Hypersensitivity to other daisy family (Asteraceae) such as Achillea millefolilum (sheep gift), Arnica montana (arnica), mugwort, Bellis perennis (daisy), Calendula officinalis (marigold), chrysanthemum, echinacea (coneflower) can lead to allergic cross-reactions (see under «What side effects can Kamillosan mouth and throat spray have?»).

Treatment is prohibited in the case of inflammation in the mouth and throat as a result of radiotherapy.

The use and safety of Kamillosan mouth and throat spray in children and adolescents has not yet been tested. Its use is therefore not recommended.

Do not use on children under 6 years of age!

In the case of severe symptoms or if there is no improvement in the symptoms within 7 days, as well as shortness of breath and/or fever, a doctor should be consulted.

Kamillosan mouth and throat spray contains macrogolglyceryl ricinoleate which, if accidentally swallowed, may cause stomach upset and diarrhea and skin reactions when applied topically. The contained propylene glycol can cause skin irritation.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!) or using them externally!

Can Kamillosan Mouth and Throat Spray be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child if used as directed.

Systematic scientific investigations were never carried out. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Kamillosan mouth and throat spray?

What side effects can Kamillosan mouth and throat spray have?

The following side effects can be observed: < /p>

Transient irritation (burning) can often occur after application.

In rare cases, a cough reflex can be triggered after inhalation due to the menthol content.

The following may occur with an unknown frequency:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions to chamomile (e.g. contact dermatitis);
  • Cross-reactions (allergic reactions) in people with hypersensitivity to other daisy family plants such as yarrow, arnica, mugwort, daisy, calendula, coneflower, chrysanthemum, daisy (see also under When should Kamillosan mouth and throat spray not be used or only with caution?);
  • Severe allergic reactions with shortness of breath, facial swelling, circulatory collapse and anaphylactic shock after contact with mucous membranes, especially in cases of improper use of liquid chamomile preparations.

If allergic reactions to one of the ingredients occur (reddening, swelling of the mucous membranes), further use should be avoided.

Excessive inhalation of the menthol-containing preparation can lead to side effects such as dizziness, confusion, muscle weakness, nausea or double vision, which are due to the volatile menthol getting into the blood.
