Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity is used locally for acute infections in the mouth and throat such as aphthae, inflammation of the oral mucosa, inflammation of the gums, sore throat and difficulty swallowing.

What is Deaftol, oromucosal spray and when is it used?

Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity is used locally for acute infections in the mouth and throat such as aphthae, inflammation of the oral mucosa, inflammation of the gums, sore throat and difficulty swallowing.

Lidocaine reduces the pain that occurs when the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat are inflamed. Aluminum lactate inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity  can also be used by people who have to follow a low-sugar diet.

What should be considered?

In the case of prolonged, recurring or non-healing inflammation in the mouth and throat, a doctor should be consulted to determine the cause to have it clarified.

When should Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity not be used?

In the case of known hypersensitivity to one of the active ingredients or excipients (see «What is in Deaftol, Spray for use in the oral cavity included?»).

When is caution required when using Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity?

If the fever is high or if there is no improvement within a week, see a doctor or see a doctor to have the cause clarified. When used as intended, no special precautions need to be taken.

This medicinal product contains 14 mg alcohol per actuation equivalent to 283 mg/ml (29% w/v). It can cause a burning sensation on damaged skin.

This medicine contains an aroma with allergens: citral and d-limonene, which may cause allergic reactions.

Can Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity, be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

The doctor or dentist will decide whether to use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding or dentist.

Based on previous experience, there is no known risk for the child when used as intended. However, systematic scientific investigations have never been carried out. Lidocaine passes into breast milk, but the recommended doses pose no risk to the infant. As a precaution, you should avoid taking medicines during pregnancy and breastfeeding or ask your doctor, dentist, pharmacist or druggist for advice.

How do you use Deaftol, oromucosal spray?

Adults: up to 6 times a day 1-2 sprays in the inflamed area use.

Children from 4 years: Apply 1 spray to the inflamed area up to 6 times a day.

Children under 4 years: (Only on medical prescription) Apply 1 spray to the inflamed area 2 to 3 times a day.

Spray on the child while exhaling.

As long as the anesthetic effect of Deaftol, oromucosal spray persists, it is recommended not to eat to avoid bites on the mucous membranes and tongue.

Note for handling: When applying, hold the spray device away from the lips to avoid pinching.

Follow the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor or dentist. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, dentist, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Deaftol, oromucosal spray have?

The following side effects may occur when using Deaftol, oromucosal spray:

At the recommended doses, Deaftol oromucosal spray may cause a feeling of dry mouth due to the astringent effect of the drug.

Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people treated)

In very rare cases, allergic side effects such as hives, skin rash, asthma or anaphylactic shock may occur.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, dentist, pharmacist or druggist. This also applies in particular to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked on the container with « EXP» can be used.

Instructions for handling before first use

The pump of Deaftol, spray for use in the oral cavity must be operated several times before the first use until a fine, even spray mist emerges. The atomization can then take place in the mouth and throat area.

Active ingredients

2.5 mg aluminum lactate and 1 mg anhydrous lidocaine hydrochloride (as lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate) corresponding to 0.87 mg lidocaine.

Excipients

Glycerol, sodium saccharin, mint-citrus flavor (contains citral, d-limonene and ethanol), ethanol 96%, purified water.

Deaftol, oromucosal spray contains 35% alcohol by volume.
