Kaya Diaphragm Gel is a contraceptive gel for use with contraceptive devices such as the diaphragm, the contraceptive pill and the cervical cap. The safety of these contraceptive methods is increased by the use of Kaya Gel.
Principle of effectiveness
Using cellulose (gel binder), Kaya Gel forms a mechanical barrier in front of the cervix. The lactic acid it contains causes a decrease in the pH value of the vagina. The increased acidity as well as the viscosity of the gel reduce sperm motility.
This lactic acid-based formulation was considered as safe as products containing nonoxynol 9 as early as 1989 (Dittrich 1989) in a comparative study of various diaphragm gels and creams. However, the product has far fewer side effects.
Instructions for use
For use with diaphragms, contraceptives and cervical caps (contraception) made of natural rubber latex or silicone. Also compatible with condoms made of natural rubber or polyurethane. Soluble in water, colourless.
Before inserting the diaphragm, contraceptive or cervical cap, place approximately one teaspoon (4 ml) of Kaya gel into the diaphragm, contraceptive or cervical cap. Also refer to the instructions for use of the diaphragm, contraceptive or cervical cap.
Composition
Purified water, lactic acid, sodium lactate, cellulose, sorbic acid, vanillin.
Storage
Store in a dry place at a temperature of 4°C to 25°C. Always keep the tube closed. Minimum expiry date: see instructions on the tube.
Side effects
