What is Cobantril and when is it used?

Cobantril is an anthelmintic. The parasites sensitive to cobantril are paralyzed and then excreted in the feces. It is very easy to use in a single dose.

Cobantril is used in adults and children suffering from pinworm infestations. Infections caused by other worms (roundworms, hookworms, so-called «stomachworms») require medical diagnosis and treatment.

Since pinworms can be transmitted easily, it is quite possible that other family members are also undetected ill. Under these circumstances, it is advisable to treat all members of a family or group of people.

What should be considered?

To avoid transmission of the parasites, strict hygienic measures required. Any direct contact of the hands with the anus should be avoided. Hands (including fingernails) must be thoroughly cleaned after each bowel movement.

Underwear should be changed frequently.

Cobantril does not stain the oral mucosa or underwear during excretion.

The eggs laid by pinworms in the anal area are microscopic. Ingestion of the eggs by mouth leads to reinfection. New pinworms can develop within two weeks of ingestion. It is therefore recommended to repeat the treatment after 2-3 weeks.

When should Cobantril not be used?

If you are unresponsive to the active substance or to the excipients contained in Cobantril, allergic reaction, you must not take Cobantril.

Cobantril should only be given to infants under the age of 2 years with a doctor's prescription.

It is not recommended to be given to children under the age of 6 months due to the Use and safety in this age group has not been studied.

The effect of cobantril on the ability to drive or use machines has not been studied. It cannot be ruled out that Cobantril will impair these abilities in individual cases.

Can Cobantril be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Cobantril should not be taken during pregnancy unless prescribed by a doctor.

It is not known whether cobantril passes into breast milk; therefore, breastfeeding should be discontinued if the use of the drug is considered unavoidable.

How do you use Cobantril?

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, per 25 kg of body weight once a tablet or once a measuring spoonful of suspension taken during or after a meal.

What side effects can Cobantril have?

The following side effects can occur when taking Cobantril:

Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract such as loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia or skin rash may also occur.

If you notice any side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What else needs to be considered?

Cobantril should be stored at room temperature (15-25 °C) and out of the reach of children.

The medicinal product may only up to the one marked «Exp.» on the container. designated date.

What does Cobantril contain?

1 chewable tablet contains:

  • Active ingredient : Pyrantelum 250 mg ut pyranteli pamoas;
  • Excipients: ethyl cellulose, polyvidone, sorbitol, fructose, lemon flavor, orange flavor, tartaric acid (E334), magnesium stearate.

1 ml suspension contains:

  • Active ingredient: Pyrantelum 50 mg ut pyranteli pamoas;
  • Excipients: lecithin (E322), citric acid (E330), sorbitol solution 70%, glycerol, veegum K, polysorbate 80, polyvidone, aroma: vanillin, ethylvanillin et alia (caramel cream and blackcurrant), antifoam emulsion, conserv.: sodium benzoate (E211), water.
