Aspirin S contains the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid. This has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Aspirin S is suitable for short-term treatment, i.e. for a maximum of 3 days treatment of mild to moderately severe, acute pain (headache, toothache, pain in the area of joints and ligaments, back pain) and for the symptomatic treatment of fever and/or pain associated with colds.
Adolescents from the age of 12 only with a doctor's prescription and only as a second-line drug (see «When should you be careful when taking Aspirin S?»).
Aspirin S must not be used for longer than 3 days unless prescribed by a doctor.
Painkillers should not be taken regularly for a long time without medical supervision. Prolonged pain requires medical supervision.
The dosage specified or prescribed by the doctor must not be exceeded.
It should also be borne in mind that long-term use of painkillers can contribute to headaches persisting.
Long-term use of painkillers, especially when several painkillers are combined, can lead to permanent kidney damage with the risk of kidney failure.
You must not use Aspirin S in the following cases:
During the Treatment with Aspirin S can cause mucosal ulcers in the upper gastrointestinal tract, rarely bleeding or, in isolated cases, perforations (gastrointestinal perforations). These complications can occur at any time during treatment, even without warning symptoms. To reduce this risk, the smallest effective dose should be used over the shortest possible duration of therapy. Contact your doctor if you have stomach pain and suspect it is related to taking the medicine.
Older people may be more sensitive to the medicine than younger adults. It is particularly important that elderly patients report any side effects to their doctor immediately.
You should only take Aspirin S with a prescription and under medical supervision in the following situations:
If you have asthma, hives, nasal polyps, hay fever or other allergies, if you have a rare hereditary disease of the red blood cells, the so-called «glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency» and if you are being treated with anticoagulants (“blood thinners”, anticoagulants) or Blood pressure lowering agents (antihypertensives) should only be taken according to the doctor's strict instructions.
Young people aged 12 and over with fever, flu, chickenpox or other viral diseases may only take Aspirin S on the doctor's instructions and only as a second-line drug. If these diseases lead to disturbances of consciousness with vomiting or after they have subsided, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
If Aspirin S is used for a longer period of time, the effect of cortisone preparations, antispasmodics (antiepileptics), blood thinners, digoxin and lithium preparations against depression can be increased. There may be an increase in the undesirable effects of these medicines. The effect of gout medicines (Probenecid and Sulfinpyrazone), water tablets (diuretics) and medicines for high blood pressure can be reduced. The use of antirheumatic drugs or methotrexate (which is taken, for example, for chronic polyarthritis; see also the section «When should Aspirin S not be used?») may increase the undesirable effects.
Aspirin S can increase the risk of bleeding if you take cortisone preparations, alcohol or drugs from the group of so-called serotonin reuptake inhibitors for depression.
If you take aspirin at the same time S and antidiabetics (e.g. insulin, sulfonylureas) can lower the blood sugar level.
Even in small doses, acetylsalicylic acid reduces the excretion of uric acid. This can trigger gout in patients who already have a low level of uric acid excretion.
In conditions with an increased risk of bleeding (e.g. menstrual bleeding or injuries), caution is advised, especially during and after surgical interventions (including minor interventions such as tooth extractions) there may be an increased tendency to bleed.
The doctor or dentist should be asked or informed about the intake before surgical interventions.
Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you

Stomach problems can occur as a side effect. In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions such as swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (e.g. blocked nose), skin rashes, asthma, shortness of breath and gastrointestinal ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding, bruising, nosebleeds or bleeding gums can occur. Serious bleeding, which in isolated cases can be potentially life-threatening, has also been reported very rarely. If signs of a hypersensitivity reaction occur, the drug should be discontinued and the doctor consulted. If the stool turns black or there is blood in the vomit during treatment, the drug should be discontinued and the doctor consulted immediately. Dizziness, headaches, blurred vision and states of confusion rarely occur.
