What is Lioton 1000 Gel and when is it used?
Lioton 1000 Gel is a heparin preparation in gel form intended for external use that is used for:
complaints associated with varicose veins such as pain, feeling of heaviness, swollen legs (stasis oedema);
blunt sports and accidental injuries such as bruises, contusions, strains with bleeding casting and swelling;
Pain in the muscles and tendons;
With a doctor's prescription, Lioton 1000 Gel can also be used for (superficial) phlebitis, for the follow-up treatment of sclerotherapy and to support venous thrombosis.
What should be considered?
Follow the advice of your doctor that goes beyond the actual dosage recommendation, e.g. gymnastics or wearing support stockings.
When must Lioton 1000 Gel not be used?
If you are known to be hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of the other ingredients.
If you have a known heparin-induced/associated thrombocytopenia (HIT, heparin-induced lack of blood platelets), Lioton 1000 Gel must not be used.
When should Lioton 1000 Gel be used? 000 Gel Caution required?
After applying or rubbing in Lioton 1000 Gel, wash your hands to avoid accidental contact with the mucous membranes and the conjunctiva. Use only on intact skin, not on open wounds.
Venous diseases that can be traced back to the presence of a blood clot (so-called thrombosis) should not be massaged in. If symptoms persist or worsen, a doctor should be consulted.
If hypersensitivity symptoms occur, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor asked for advice.
Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking or using other medicines (including those you bought yourself).
Can Lioton 1000 Gel be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. For Lioton 1000 nothing is known about a possible risk for the unborn child or the breast-fed infant. The doctor will decide whether Lioton 1000 Gel is suitable for you.
How do you use Lioton 1000 Gel?
Adults
Apply 3-10 cm of gel to the affected skin area one to three times a day and massage in gently. For the legs massage direction from bottom to top. Do not rub in with phlebitis, but apply the thickness of the back of a knife and put on a bandage. Use only on intact skin, not on mucous membranes.
Children and adolescents
The use and safety of Lioton 1000 Gel in children and adolescents has not yet been tested.
Observe the dosage specified in the package insert or prescribed by the doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.
What side effects can Lioton 1000 Gel have?

The medicinal product may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.

Lioton 1000 Gel contains per gram: Heparin sodium 1000 U.I.; Flavorings, the preservatives propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E216) and methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E218) and other additives.
