What is Ialugen Plus and when is it used?

Ialugen Plus contains the active ingredient sodium hyaluronate, a natural substance that accelerates scarring, and silver sulfadiazine, which has an antibacterial effect.

In the case of self-medication, Ialugen Plus is indicated for the treatment of small burns and small infected wounds.

With a doctor's prescription, Ialugen Plus can be used to treat ulcers, burns and wounds infected by microorganisms or fungi.

Ialugen Plus Cream can also be used to treat anal fissures and wounds after surgery to remove hemorrhoids (hemorrhoidectomy).

What should be considered?

Every burn must be immediately cooled with cold water; the blisters heal better if left intact.

Extensive or severe burns and ulcers must be treated under medical supervision.

Extensive wounds that are often infected or deep, such as bites and puncture wounds, require medical attention (risk of tetanus).

If the wound size does not decrease within a certain time or if the wound has not healed after 10-14 days, you should consult your doctor. This also applies if the edges of the wound are very red, if the wound swells and becomes painful or if you have a fever (risk of blood poisoning).

When should Ialugen Plus not be used?

Ialugen Plus should not be used in the following cases:

  • during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy (last 3 months of pregnancy);
  • in premature and newborn babies and infants in the first two months of life, because sulfonamides can cause brain damage (kernicterus). ;
  • If you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredients or to one of the excipients.

When should Ialugen Plus be used with caution?

In the following situations, caution is advised, use Ialugen Plus only with a doctor's prescription:

  • if you are allergic to sulfonamides;
  • if you suffer from kidney dysfunction;
  • if you suffer from liver dysfunction or liver disease;
  • li>if you suffer from glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (rare hereditary metabolic disorder which can lead to damage to red blood cells by various medicines);
  • if you have acute porphyria (disorder of the formation of the red blood pigment);
  • if you have been diagnosed with a pathological change in your blood count with a reduction in the number of white blood cells (leukopenia);
  • if you know that you are a "slow acetylator" which means that certain medicines are broken down more slowly in your liver.

The wound should be cleaned before treatment with Ialugen Plus. If there are necrotic deposits, they must be removed by a doctor.

Under the influence of sunlight, a gray discoloration of the skin (= argyrose) can occur due to the storage of silver. The parts of the body treated with Ialugen Plus should be protected by covering them with a sterile, breathable bandage or suitable clothing.

Serious skin reactions (e.g. Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), which may be life-threatening, have been reported in association with the use of silver sulfadiazine. These appear initially as reddish, target-like or circular patches (often with a central blister) on the trunk. The rash can cause widespread blistering or peeling of the skin. Additional symptoms to look out for include open, sore spots (ulcers) in the mouth, throat, nose, and genitals, and red and swollen eyes (conjunctivitis). These potentially life-threatening skin reactions are often accompanied by flu-like symptoms (headache, fever and body aches). If you get a skin rash or any of the other symptoms listed above, stop using Ialugen Plus and see a doctor straight away: tell them you are using this medicine.

Using Ialugen Plus with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or using other medicines, others recently have taken or used any medicines or intend to take or use any other medicines.

Since a small part of the active substance silver sulfadiazine contained in Ialugen Plus can be absorbed by the body, interactions with other medicines are possible, e.g. medicines to inhibit blood clotting or to treat diabetes. If other creams containing proteolytic enzymes are applied at the same time, the silver component of Ialugen Plus can reduce the effect of the enzymes.

Effect on ability to drive and use machines

Ialugen Plus has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist, or your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from another illness, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!) or use them externally.

Can Ialugen Plus be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Do not use Ialugen Plus during the 3rd trimester of your pregnancy (last 3 months of pregnancy). During the other stages of pregnancy, you should only use Ialugen Plus if your doctor has prescribed you.

Do not use Ialugen Plus while breast-feeding unless your doctor tells you otherwise. In particular, premature infants and newborns with jaundice (yellowing of the skin or the normally white sclera of the eyes) or newborns with suspected or known glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a metabolic disorder of the red blood cells) should not be breast-fed while using Ialugen Plus become.

If your doctor prescribes Ialugen Plus while you are breastfeeding, do not use the cream on your breasts.

How do you use Ialugen Plus?

Cream: unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the cream is at least 2-3 mm thickly applied directly to the injury. The application must be renewed every 24 hours after the cream residue has been carefully washed away with water.

For application in the anus: screw the enclosed cannula onto the tip of the tube and carefully insert it into the anus. While slowly withdrawing the cannula, apply pressure to the tube and apply the cream directly to the injured area.

After use, clean the cannula thoroughly without unscrewing it and close the tube tightly again.

Gazen: depending on the surface of the wound, apply one or more Ialugen Plus gauzes once a day, cover with sterile gauze, place cotton wool on top and secure with a suitable bandage.

The individual packs are intended for single use.

The use and safety of Ialugen Plus in children and adolescents has not yet been tested in studies. Ialugen Plus must not be used in premature babies, newborns and infants during the first two months of life.

Stick to the dosage given in the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think the medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or druggist.

What side effects can Ialugen Plus have?

The following side effects can occur when using Ialugen Plus:

Redness, itching, eczema, dermatitis or swelling (oedema) at the application site, hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash), graying of the skin (with prolonged use or under the influence of sunlight).

If you unexpectedly develop a fever or an allergy in the form of an itchy skin rash while using Ialugen Plus, you should consult your doctor.

Rarely, exposure to sunlight can cause the skin to turn gray.

Rarely, a bluish-grey discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes can occur after long-term, large-scale application. In this case, stop the treatment and inform the doctor.

When extensive skin areas are treated with Ialugen Plus, the side effects known after oral intake of sulfonamides (e.g. blood count changes, kidney dysfunction, severe skin reactions) cannot be ruled out.

If you notice side effects that are not described here, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.

What else needs to be considered?

The medicine should be stored at room temperature (15-25 °C), protected from light and out of the reach of children.

It may only be used up to the date marked «EXP» on the container.

After the expiry date has passed, it should no longer be used and should be returned to the pharmacy.
